The Chef’s Place is a small gem of a western restaurant serving really affordable Western food in southern Singapore.
Chef’s Place is located at the SAFRA Mount Faber clubhouse’s Food Paradise food court. It is available to the public and run by a Chinese couple who painstakingly produce delicious meals dish after dish, especially during busy lunchtime hours when long lines are the usual.
On first glance, you may expect a sizable menu selection from a typical establishment with a Western flair. There is also the normal range of frozen chicken, pork chops, seafood, and steaks. Chef’s Place, on the other hand, provides more than that; it specializes in grilled foods including scallops, squid rings, and crab flesh! Since everything for these grilled delicacies is made to order, the wait is worthwhile!

There were so many different meats on my plate! And all of them looked amazing—the chicken had been grilled until it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside; the sausage had just enough spice to make it interesting; and even though I’m not much of a fish person, this salmon was cooked perfectly!

The Chef’s Place Black Pepper Chicken
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try Black Pepper Chicken with curly fries and coleslaw. I’ve always been a big fan of black pepper, and I’m also a huge fan of chicken and curly fries.
The first thing that struck me about this meal was how much it looked like it would taste like my mom’s cooking—which is one of the highest compliments I can give. The chicken was cooked perfectly, with just enough crispiness on the outside while still being juicy on the inside. The curly fries were also perfectly cooked: crispy but not too hard on the outside, soft on the inside.
And then there was the coleslaw! It had just enough crunchiness without being too hard or dry; it was sweet without being overly so; it added just enough tartness to balance out all of those other flavors… It just worked!
Overall, this is a meal that will make you feel like you’re at home (even if you aren’t).
The Chef’s Place Grilled Atlantic Salmon Fish
So I’m going to be honest. This was not my first time eating grilled salmon. But it was the first time I’d ever eaten it with curly fries and a trio of season vegetables.
And it was delicious! The salmon was perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of char on the outside and a soft interior that practically melted in my mouth. The curly fries were crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned on the inside, and the vegetables were fresh and flavorful—I especially loved how they were still crunchy after being cooked!
My meal was also served promptly and hot! Overall I would recommend this dish to anyone looking for a great dining experience!
The Chef’s Place Mushroom Grilled Chicken
The Mushroom Grilled Chicken with onion rings and coleslaw sounded like a pretty standard meal when I ordered it, but once it arrived at my table, I realized that this was going to be more than just another chicken sandwich.
The chicken was grilled to perfection, with a crunchy outer shell and tender center. The onions were grilled separately, so they were soft and delicious, but not so soft that they fell apart when you bit into them. The coleslaw had just enough vinegar to give it some bite without being overpowering or sour. And the bun? Well… let’s just say that it’s still sitting in my stomach as we speak because it was so light!
This dish is so satisfying that it’s hard to put into words—you’ll just have to try it yourself to see what I mean!
